Evaluating a ‘head of wellbeing’ for school health

This year-long trial explored the impact of introducing a health and wellbeing syllabus into a UK secondary school, delivered by a dedicated staff member with the role of ‘Head of Wellbeing’.

The programme reshaped the school environment to promote physical and mental health for students and staff, including:

Healthier in-school meals and access to fresh water

A fully equipped school gym and community events

A syllabus teaching students the fundamentals of a healthy lifestyle

The evaluation provided evidence on how integrated school programmes can improve wellbeing, support healthier habits, and inform scalable interventions in educational settings.
